How to read a caffeine pouch label: a seven-step checklist

Read serving size, caffeine amounts, other ingredients, nicotine claims, warnings, dates, and seller details before choosing a pouch.

Updated October 23, 2026 · By the STRYVE team · General information, not medical advice

Before comparing flavors or prices, turn the can around. A useful label answers specific questions in a specific order.

1. Identify the exact product

Write down the brand, product line, flavor, and strength. Two cans from the same company can have different formulas. Keep the label that arrived with your order; it is more specific than a generic category page.

2. Find the serving size

If the panel says a serving contains two pouches, do not read the amount per serving as the amount in one pouch. Ask the manufacturer if the units are unclear. Avoid doing mental arithmetic from a front-label strength badge alone.

3. Read caffeine in milligrams

Look for the amount per pouch. For STRYVE Energy, that is 100mg. A can containing 15 pouches does not make 1,500mg a serving or a daily recommendation. A milligram number needs both an ingredient name and a unit.

4. Read all the ingredients

Front-label highlights are not the whole formula. Check the other ingredients, including sweeteners and flavors. A proprietary blend name or a list of ingredient names does not tell you every ingredient's amount. Do not infer a clinical benefit from an ingredient appearing in the list.

5. Check the nicotine statement separately

Do not substitute “tobacco-free” for “nicotine-free.” If you are seeking zero nicotine, confirm that statement for the exact product. If you also want no caffeine, check that independently. Our nicotine-free, tobacco-free, and caffeine-free comparison shows what each phrase does and does not tell you.

6. Read directions, warnings, and storage

Keep the product age policy, use directions, maximum-use instructions, and storage guidance together. A maximum is not a suggested target. Consider other products in your routine before using any caffeine.

7. Check who can answer a question

Find the manufacturer or responsible seller and a contact route. Save the product URL and date you checked it. Ask about conflicting claims before buying or using an unclear product.
